Kite boarding has only become popular recently, as people started taking notice in the 90s. This sport is very similar to surfing or wakeboarding, except your movement relies on the strength of the wind which sometimes brings to incredibly high speeds. Kite boarding has elements of surfing and wakeboarding but it much easier to learn. You will often find children who have gotten the hang of the sport on only their second lesson.
Tricks are a large part of enjoying this aquatic sport. A common kite boarding trick is turning. It is a basic act where the trainee puts the kite in neutral, sinks back into the water before turning the kite in the opposite direction. Once one is proficient with this move, you can try the heel turn jibe, where the kite board is slowed, flattened and reversed on the water through a reverse in the position of the back and front foots. This move is great as all parts, kite and board, make a 180 degree turn, reversing the direction while the kite is centered. Sometimes, the rider may fail to perform the move correctly, and fly off the board.
It is in those instances that the right safety equipment is handy. Safety measures like the deadman system, applied where there is a sharp knife is part of essential equipment.
Using a kite board involves equipment like a control bar with lines, a harness, an impact vest, and a sharp knife to cut lines if the high wind threatens to jeopardize the safety of the rider. Helmets are not necessary but only add to the safety of the participant. Even with these safety measures, kite boarding can be dangerous; therefore it is important that you consider professional instruction to minimize any risks. By learning from a professional, you will be able to learn skills involving flying, launching the kite, and handlebar control.
The sport of kite boarding is sure to help you live your life on the wild side. To fully enjoy this sport, be sure to purchase the equipment that is right for you. Once you have done this you will be able to fully enjoy the sport of kite boarding.
